Introduction
The $150 cheap bike challenge is back but will it last? We push these cheap mountain bikes to the limits down stairs over jumps, gaps and off drops until one of us is the winner! Let's SEND IT!
After buying a bike each, Marc Diekmann, Lukas Knopf and myself headed out around Los Angeles to find some fun spots to hit with our new bikes. We decided to start at a famous stair set called Baxter stairways and this was a heavy test straight out the gate. From here we found some trial lines that ended with some bicycle destruction and laughs. Moving on again we found ourselves at a skatepark with loads of different features to get creative on from drop off's to rail grinds, it was a blast! After all the action we still didn't have a winner so we decided to end with a ghosty distance contest to find a champion! I love these challenges because it really shows that even if you don't have much money you can still get out there and send it! Shot on GoPro HERO 8 Black!
I hope you enjoy the video!

Hello, everyone today is going to be epic.
It is once again the cheap bite challenge with the German squad and we are going to get some epic bite they're from Walmart and push them to the ultimate limit.
We can see that this shop is the place to be there's loads of bikes.
Then up outside for us to choose from we're, gonna go in there see what we can find and then get into the action we've made it to the selection of bikes at Walmart housing areas loads.
Here we've decided we're gonna go for 24-inch wheels, though, because it's gonna be stronger and hopefully that will make the day way more exciting, because we'll get more action in after looking over all of the bikes of finally Joseon I want.
This is the Genesis Bell and I'm gonna start things off already in the shop with a huge wailing.
I need safety.
First, you need a helmet whenever you ride a bike, so just picked one up here we go first track of the day.
My first challenge complete.
Let's get him after driving around for about four hours.
We've finally arrived at what I think is: gonna be the ultimate test for these bikes.
It might actually be too much because it is the first thing we're gonna do and it is the longest asset.
I've ever seen we're getting our last bits of preparation done now getting air inflated into the tires.
We've tightening up all the bolts because it is gonna, be a bumpy ride.
We're now gonna make our way to the top of this mountain of stairs and send endless stairs coming up just half the way we've made it to the top of the stair set of doom.
Now it goes down down down.
Oh no, no! No, anyway enough talking about it.
Let's drop in on the Genesis 24 bellavista straight in to the vlog farm.
Look out mark.
This is oh, my god, my chains off Oh.
Yes, it's working like the dream, Oh Oh change for the off I made it yeah, it's still in one piece: oh so good, nice, film, the other guys quick yeah.
We just left that last stair set and while we're driving away from this area, we just found this.
You can't even see it goes miles up there, it's gonna be so so horrible I can't wait.
You ready guys scared at them again.
Oh, that is horrible.
No, that's so scary.
Look at them bars.
Okay, we just turned up to the next spot.
It's a bit more chill than the stair sets.
We now have to get up from this stone onto this thing and then go all the way around and drop back to flat over there.
That's the challenge I'm going to set in this little Park, and we all have to do it who's fast marks.
First, then, it's your turn and then it's mine, cool, perfect, easy, too easy Seleucus.
His turn.
Maybe he's gonna mess up no way he's going fast, yeah I think we should try well I at least want to try and go on and we're Li the whole way around no way yes, $150 I think marks got a little challenge.
Chris now, there's some.
What do you follow some tables over there with like benches next to it, so we're trying to hop onto it and ride over it again go on and land it as it's your set, yeah I mean I, could just call somebody else alone it just like Lukas good, oh yeah, sure you can yeah make Lucas - oh yeah Lucas.
Do a person know how fast, oh, my god, yeah yeah, yeah Wow, you might swear off the Accu and look where the bars off it's so scary, oh so so death whose go now mark I think I, try it now bestir yeah nice.
That was clean.
Oh yes, scary, yes, mark! That was all good yeah same story: okay, I'll give it a go.
Yeah classic wasn't expecting anything different, but we've now come to a little skate park.
We had some troubles finding another spot to ride and the Sun is dropping fast.
But hopefully this one's going to work out.
We got a bit of a flat Bank there, some stairs and drops- and it's my set now first challenge at the skate park, then is the 270 on here.
I'm gonna opt to go first on this one.
Let's see how it goes.
Oh, yes, your go mark, oh yeah, ready for your 270 of doom yeah I hope my bank is ready.
Yeah, hey do bars, move now that counts.
You got it it's just.
The bars turned completely when you landed.
Okay, put them right on this Bank feature, and we all have to do it.
I guess stuck in there clean.
What are you gonna set this and see the bikes actually hold up? You survived I'm gonna, give it a go right now, Lucas get it easy, but we've come to another spot of in the park and I'm gonna set a suicide no-hander out of here.
Hopefully it works.
Let's get it yo, so I'm gonna say we all just have to take our hands off in some way.
Okay, so get it boys, oh yeah, for the talk yeah nice.
Are you ready for it? I'm ready all right.
The bike isn't I am, though, get a bit more destructive, all right, you're, going to three out of the bank 360 out yeah good one.
Oh look like the front wheel bent.
Then sort of just started biking tire when the winners box compressed the mop that bit touches the tire it just stopped it dead.
This is so bad now, Oh No and the end lavoris doing the exact same thing is mine.
My bike is pretty messed up like the handlebar in the stem keeps moving so I guess if I spin, it will not work I, just wanna try it I did yeah, oh yeah easy and the phone come out well.
I can't believe you did that on that bike.
Sorry Z, not my I'm gonna! Do it again: okay, oh yeah! We've come to the capital of grinds ville.
Oh it's sparked that was so cool.
Let me try and get one on there, quick yeah, yo windmark.
We just come away from the skate park and I've found a drop down into like wood jet landing.
Hopefully it works.
I was painful straight into the woodchips.
All right, Lucas is stepping up he's gonna try on my bike for ultimate sentence: yes, Lucas get it whoa mark.
Do it yeah mark then go mark for the vlog Wow we're now gonna do the longest.
Ghosty takes the win, because we've all done so good today and no one was really a winner until now, because we're gonna find out who it is mark is in Oh Lucas, no way Lucas you're the champ yeah.
You won the tree tree challenge before yeah, you lost everything and now one Wow I.
Don't suppose any of you want this bike, we've we're from England and I'm, leaving and I.
Don't need it anymore, cool, perfect! There you go, awesome, have fun with that yeah yeah perfect.
So we found someone that was super appreciative of the bike.
She just gave him.
He said he's gonna, give them to his two kids, so that is epic and what an awesome ending to another fun, cheap bike challenge.
Video I think that is a cool thing, though, that you know, if you don't really have any money, you can still get a bike.
That is super cheap and do some fun stuff on it.
So, on that awesome bombshell, that is the end of the video hope you guys enjoyed it.
That'd be awesome, videos and comments, and we see we subscribe the next one.
FAQs
What is the difference between cheap and expensive bikes? ›
“Expensive” Bikes Use Higher Quality Components
Cyclists won't be able to replace the shifters or rear mechanicals with quality-made parts without a lot of work. “Expensive” bikes, on the other hand, have a considerable amount of engineering behind them to increase the efficiency and durability of the model.
Overall, expensive bikes are lighter in weight, have greater steering stiffness, and the components used (brakes, tires, gears, pedals, etc.) are of better quality. Therefore, purchasing an expensive bicycle as a novice is not necessary. There are perfectly suitable bicycles for under $1000.
What is the speed difference between cheap and expensive road bikes? ›Higher-priced road bikes are usually faster by 5- 15% than low-budget road bikes. 15% faster on a downhill, 10% on a flat road, and 5% on uphill terrain. That's because they have better geometry for aerodynamics and racing in particular and also they are a couple of kilos lighter than a cheap road bike.
Is it worth spending 2000 on a bike? ›The amount of money that you spend on a bike will depend on many different factors. But on average, you should spend around $1000-$2000 on a bike. When you are looking to buy a bike, it is always in your best interest to find out all the facts before making a purchase.
Why are cheap bikes so heavy? ›Cheap bikes are typically made of steel, which is strong but heavy. More expensive bikes, on the other hand, are made of lighter materials like aluminum or carbon fiber. These materials make the bike more lightweight, which can make a big difference when it comes to speed and performance.
Why are cheap bikes heavy? ›Cheaper bikes often have more components which appears to make them heavier. Generally the more you spend, the less likely you will get the useful and important parts like reflectors, bell, fenders, rack, kickstand, etc.
How much do you actually need to spend to get a good bike? ›Rule #1: Spend $1,000-2,500 on your first bike
This may seem like a lot of money to some. To others, it may seem like too little. But this is a good starting point for newer riders who are motivated to get into cycling but aren't ready to eclipse the cost of their cars.
A new bike will probably make you faster while it's still in perfect working order and you're motivated to ride it hard. Realistically however, it may only be a matter of months before you find yourself in the same position you're in now, so think twice before you feel the need to blow the budget on a new bike.
Does a more expensive bike make you go faster? ›An expensive road bike can make you faster, but only if you have the skills and fitness level to fully utilize the bike. Average riders will notice a difference with an expensive bike, but it will not improve their performance much.
Are heavier bikes slower? ›(A heavier bike won't make up the entire difference, especially if the downhill requires breaking, but it will accelerate slightly faster than a lighter one.) A much more efficient—and economical—way to lighten your load is to shed body weight, says Gourley, not bike weight.
Which bike speed is easiest? ›
Low Gear = Easy = Good for Climbing: The “low” gear on your bike is the smallest chain ring in the front and the largest cog on your cassette (rear gears). In this position, the pedaling will be the easiest and you'll be able to pedal uphill with the smallest amount of resistance.
Are heavy bikes slower? ›A study by Dr Paul Macdermid showed that heavier bikes were slower up hills—no surprise! A bike 21% heavier was 3.3% slower for a 95kg rider. This same study indicated that a dropper post will lose you only 1 second up a steep climb. Rotating weight is important, and get even more important as the diameter gets bigger.
How much should you pay for your first bike? ›Thielmeyer said plan to spend $500 or more on your first bike. If that sounds like a lot of money, you can think of it as an investment. Money put into your bike will save you in the long run at the pump. Bikes at local stores are also made well and are designed to last.
What is the average life of bike? ›Their average service life also fluctuates with different motorcycle types and brands: Cruiser bikes: 40,000 – 50,000 miles. Touring bikes: 40,000 – 50,000 miles or even reaching 100,000 miles. Sports bikes: 25,000 – 50,000 miles (due to extreme conditions)
Are old bikes worth buying? ›“Don't assume a vintage bicycle is worth a fortune, because only the best bikes fetch high prices,” says Langley. “Most vintage bikes sell for between $100 and $400. Even museum-quality antiques, like highwheel bikes, typically don't change hands for more than around $3,000 to $4,000.”
Do expensive bikes go faster? ›An expensive road bike can make you faster, but only if you have the skills and fitness level to fully utilize the bike. Average riders will notice a difference with an expensive bike, but it will not improve their performance much. Only high-level riders can use these bikes to their utmost.
Do more expensive bikes go faster? ›When pros spend tens of thousands of dollars on a bike, what are they looking for? Expensive bikes, under the same circumstances, go faster than cheaper ones because they are lighter and of higher quality. However, to reach high speeds, the most important factor is for the rider to have an excellent fitness level.
Why do more expensive bikes have less gears? ›Road bikes are typically built for speed and efficiency rather than for climbing hills or going off-road, so they don't need as many gears. Fewer gears also mean fewer parts, which reduces the bike's weight and makes it easier to maintain.
How much are good quality bikes? ›If you're looking for a road bike for serious riding, training or just commuting, £700 is about the price point at which you will get a solid ride that, given due care and attention, will serve you well for years to come.
